Getting Ready For Ian
Our eyes are focused on Ian in the tropics right now. Ian is expected to be a major hurricane at landfall. There are a few things to keep in mind as the storm enters the Gulf early this week and impacts the Florida coast.
The path can change at any time. The current storm is estimated at 450 miles wide. Hurricanes impact much larger than the cone indicated on the maps. Outer bands can have just as much dangerous weather as the interior of the storm.
Stay vigilant and be ready to go if evacuation orders are given. Evacuations are a matter of public safety. These orders are given because authorities know that if you stay, first responders will not be able to get to you while the storm is making landfall. Please prepare your evacuation plans if you are in the coastal regions.
This is a good time to check in on your hurricane preparedness kits. Make sure all of your gas tanks in your vehicles are full and stay weather aware.
